
The Five Quests
Knights may pursue only one Quest per year.
The Five Quests are open only to those members of the Royal Order of
Castle Van Tassel who have completed the original Three Quests and undergone
the Ceremony of Knighthood. Having read extensively, these Knights will now

Knight's submissions
To submit for publication to the Library's website two finished, original works of Fiction, Non-Fiction or Poetry in any combination.
Fiction: Write a story using your own characters and ideas. It must be at least 500 words long, but not more than 1500 words. It must be typed in Microsoft Word, Notepad or Wordpad and must be handed in on a floppy disk or CD. One copy printed out must be handed in with the disk.
Non-Fiction: Write a report on any subject that interests you. It must be at least 300 words long, but not more than 1000 words. It must be typed in Microsoft Word, Notepad or Wordpad and must be handed in on a floppy disk or CD. One copy printed out must be handed in with the disk. List at least three books, magazines or other sources your information came from.
Poetry: Write a poem on any subject that interests you. It must be no longer than 30 lines.
Deadlines:
Turn in finished works no later than 1 December for the February ceremony or 1 August for the October ceremony. You may be asked to make corrections before the work is accepted.
Knights without computers may make arrangements to work at the
Library. The Herald will be glad to discuss any questions or ideas at any
time during Library hours. All works will be returned to the Knight as soon
as it is published. It will remain on the website for 6 months and be
printed out for inclusion in a binder at the Library.
The Quest of the Scarlet Plume
To submit for publication to the Library's website four to six finished, original illustrations to a book or story of the Knight's Choosing.
Illustrations must be the Knight's own original work, not tracings or copies. They may be black-and-white or color, in any medium that can be scanned or digitally photographed. Two-dimensional works must be at least 6"x6" and no larger than 8½"x14". Paper should be plain and opaque. Originals must be submitted.
Deadlines:
Turn in finished works no later than 1 December for the February ceremony or 1 August for the October ceremony. Castle Van Tassel officials will look over all work for originality and subject matter.

The Quest of the Gold Plume
To submit for publication to the Library's website Four to Six finished, original illustrations to an Original Story written by the Knight.

To Plan and Carry Out an Evening Program of Stories for the Library.
Program: Tell or read thirty minutes of stories or poems or both, to entertain an audience of three- to eight-year-old listeners. Plan and help prepare a craft project to go with the stories. Plan and help prepare posters and bookmarks to publicize the program.Except in the case of a play or puppet show, the Knight must perform alone.
The Library will provide all crafts materials. Please do not plan to use liquid paints, liquid or hot glue or glitter.
Deadlines: Ideas must be submitted and the program scheduled at least one month before it is presented. The program must be presented no later than 5 January for recognition at the February ceremony or 5 September for the October ceremony. It will be photographed and the photos will be published on the Library website for six months after the ceremony, then will be printed out and collected in a binder.

Copies of the photos and publicity materials will be given to the Knight as soon as possible after publication to the website. Photos will remain on the website for 6 months and be printed out for inclusion in a binder at the Library.
