Children's Programs

Programs for children go on year-round at the Library. Click on the links on the left to find out more about these great children's programs. Storytime is a weekly daytime event for our youngest patrons, while Special Events go on in the evening for preschool and school age children together.

Storytime

Preschoolers ages three to five are invited to sign up for a weekly half hour of story fun every Wednesday, with a variety of readers from among Library staff and volunteers.

Storytimes start promptly at 10 AM year-round with short breaks between sessions. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the program.

Most children's programs take place in the R. R. Donnnelly Children's Library on the second floor and are aimed to interest young people ages three to eight.

Adults are expected to stay with children throughout all programs. And after all, are you ever too old to enjoy being read to?

Kids who are reading on their own have a choice of clubs at the Library, both seasonal and year-round:

The Royal Order of Castle Van Tassel

The Royal Order of Castle Van Tassel is the Library's way of celebrating the achievements of all our members reading on their own. Ceremonies are held twice a year to which all members are invited.

Young Readers Club

for people who enjoy reading aloud. Interested in becoming a member? See Mrs. Roszel in the Children's Library to set up an audition.

Summer Reading Club

Held each summer for readers ages 6 to 12. Just because the school year is ending, that doesn’t mean the learning has to stop. Students who don’t continue reading over the summer are likely to lose ground. Make reading fun with our Summer Reading Club

Read-to-Me-Club

Held each summer for good listeners ages 3 to 5. Studies have consistently shown that children who are read to on a regular basis score 30% higher on standardized test scores. Encourage a life time of good reading habits.
