Rules of the Order

1. Who may join the Order of Castle Van Tassel?
Anyone who is able to read alone, even a little, and who has a valid Bloomsburg Public Library membership of his or her own may join. Those wishing to join should consider doing so before the age of twelve.

 2. How may an interested person join?
Hopeful candidates must see the Herald (the Children's Librarian) or any member of the Library staff during Library hours.

3. What are a member's duties?
All Knight-candidates begin as Readers. Upon joining, each Reader receives a special Castle Van Tassel bookmark to keep, and a log sheet.  The log sheet is kept in the Library in the Book of Readers and may be added to any time during Library hours.

The Reader may list on the log sheet any book found in the Library's catalog, or from the Library's paperback collection, after reading the whole book.  Readers may ask for help with reading.

It is the member's responsibility to ask for a new log sheet when each old one is filled.  Log sheets are kept in the Children's Library and at the Circulation Desk.

A Reader must earn 150 Points to be promoted to Page.
A Page returns to zero points and must earn 200 points to become a Squire.
A Squire returns to zero points and must earn 300 points to become a KNIGHT of the ROYAL ORDER of CASTLE VAN TASSEL.

Points

It is the responsibility of the Herald to count and tally points. As members earn points enough for promotion, they will be notified by Official Communication through the mail.

Failed in the Quest

No member is ever dropped from the Order unless he or she fails to list books on the log sheet for the period of One Year. Knights are never dropped. If a member who has failed in the quest wishes to rejoin, he or she must return as a Reader at zero points.
